Freeman

A Visionary Leader

Norman E. Freeman, Jr., D.Min., is a compassionate and visionary faith leader with over 20 years of spiritual leadership, pastoral care, and community engagement. Since 2013, he has served as the Senior Pastor of Greater Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Pompano Beach, FL, where he provides divine vision and guidance, counseling and care, as well as a steadfast commitment to fostering wholistic growth and support for his congregation and the broader community. Pastor Freeman holds a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) degree from Ashland Theological Seminary with a concentration in Leadership. His dissertation, Reconnecting Young Adults and Preparing Them for Leadership in the Church, reflects his dedication to mentoring the next generation of church leaders. He also earned a Master of Divinity (M.Div.) from Virginia Union University School of Theology and a Bachelor of Science in Marketing and Management from Baker College. Throughout his ministry, Dr. Freeman has emphasized compassionate care and community outreach. At Greater Antioch, he provides spiritual guidance through the worship experience as well as individual and family support through counseling services for individuals and couples. Dr. Freeman is a trained counselor through Prepare/Enrich, the leading premarital and marriage assessment program designed to highlight strengths and identify opportunities for growth in communication, intimacy, spirituality, finances, and other essential aspects of relationships. He also partners with community organizations to strengthen families and enrich the lives of children. Dr. Freeman’s pastoral care encompasses regular home, hospital, and hospice visitations to offer comfort and hope to the sick and grieving. He continues to expand his expertise through the McCreary Center for African American Religious Studies’ Chaplain training program.

Prior to Greater Antioch, Dr. Freeman served as Senior Pastor at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Homestead, Florida (2002–2013) and also previously held the position of Youth Pastor at Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church in Miami, Florida (1998–2002). In addition to his pastoral roles, Dr. Freeman previously taught religion and philosophy at Barry University and Florida Memorial University as an Adjunct Professor.

Dr. Freeman is actively involved in numerous community organizations, including the Broward Health North Community Relations Council, Circle of Brotherhood, and Bold Justice. He is also a motivational speaker and mentor for youth-focused programs.

Dr. Freeman’s devotion to God and commitment to service is matched only by his love for his family. He is married to Lavinia Battle Freeman, and they are the proud parents of Nia Emani, Laila Breeze, and Najee Emir.
